Opened in 1983, the Falkland Islands Government Office in London raises awareness of the Falkland Islands and represents the interests of its Government and people. It targets the UK government, members of Parliament, media and the general public. The office also provides support services and acts as a showcase for Falkland Islands products and holds exhibitions of Island-related art and photography.
Over the past few years, with help from Lynx Networks, The Falkland Islands Government’s IT system in Stanley has undergone significant improvement. However, their London office had not benefited from the same level of support. Over the course of three years this resulted in a disjointed network with reliability problems and expert assistance to rectify these issues proved hard to come by.
As a result Lynx Networks excellent working relationship with the IT Department of the Falkland Islands Government, we were asked to provide a quotation to supply new equipment and engineering assistance to re-build the network into something reliable that offered the services you would expect of a modern computer system.
Microsoft Small Business Server was ideal for this solution as it provided cost-effective file and print (F&P) and email services on a single platform. Existing data was transferred to the new server, and a new tape device with Backup Exec software to help automate the backup process was installed to ensure reliable daily backups were made. New PCs and printers were added into the mix, all of which has given FIGO London a system they can feel more relaxed with. Moving from a scenario of calling your support company "when something goes wrong" to "if something goes wrong" has seen a pleasant but major shift in thinking!
The office also provides support services and acts as a showcase for Falkland Islands products and holds exhibitions of Island-related art and photography.
